Situated as it is in the heart of the ‘Garden of England’, the club is an excellent starting-point from which to explore the sights and sounds of Kent.
There are many places of interest in the area – the county town of Maidstone, the historic city of Rochester with its Norman castle and cathedral, Chatham Dockyard and its new Marina development, and pretty Royal Tunbridge Wells, are all just a short drive away.
The surrounding countryside has plenty to offer, too. There are several National Trust and English Heritage sites of note, including Leeds Castle and Hever Castle, and the beautiful gardens of Sissinghurst. For those who like to relax with a glass of something nice after a hard day’s croquet, Kent also boasts some fine vineyards.
Even sea and sand can be found within easy driving distance. You might want to seek out Whitstable, in north Kent, if you’re fond of oysters, while the Cinque Ports – scattered around Kent’s easterly shores – are well worth a visit. The well-known resorts of Brighton and Eastbourne, although in neighbouring Sussex, are also close to hand.
