Coaching

The club offers a series of 6 coaching sessions lasting 2 hours each, from 6pm to 8pm, May to August. During the coaching lessons golf croquet is most commonly taught as an introduction to croquet. Later you 'll learn how the various croquet strokes are played, and given a basic introduction to association croquet

(Coaching at the club is also provided on a 1-to-1 basis, on request.)

How to try out your new-found skills...
At the end of your first season, you can enter the Novices' Championship and, depending on how confident you're feeling, you can take part in other competitions designed for players of similar ability.

As you progress, you'll be encouraged to enter matches for high bisquers. Some of these are doubles matches in which you may be partnered by a low bisquer who is allowed to guide you while you play. Another form of coaching is Mixed Ability Doubles, which can be played with a high bisquer and low bisquer playing alternative strokes - again, the low bisquer is allowed to supervise the low bisquer.

When you're ready, you can take part in Open Tournaments - including some specifically for novices - at other clubs.

After a while, you'll probably decide that you're good enough to play advanced croquet, and you can enter tournaments for advanced players only. At this stage, your results are entered into the Croquet Association's website ranking system. The club currently has 4 players who would expect to be ranked within the first 150 on the UK ranking system.

For those wishing to specialise in golf croquet, there are SECF league matches, as well as inter county matches. The club offers informal coaching during most Thursday and Sunday golf sessions.
