What goes on

During the week...

Lawns are open to club members at all times - don't forget to bring a key for the pavilion. Specific regular events in the season are shown below. Come along to join in or to do your own thing!

Coaching takes place on Wednesdays, and unofficial club days are Sundays when, from 11am, you can always get a game of golf croquet.

Main season - April to end of September
Winter season - One lawn is open all winter, but members are asked not to use it if the lawn is very wet or frosty. In theory, you may play all 8,760 hours of the year (non-leap). But please - look after the lawns!

During the year...

January 1 - knockabout on the lawn (usually one-ball), soup, and mulled wine

late March - Club members mark out the lawns and hoop positions, and make holes for the hoops. Members are also asked during March which of the Club's championships and competitions they wish to enter

Easter or April 1 (whichever is earlier) - the main season opens, and runs until the end of September. Something fairly easy is organised for Easter Monday.

April - the Y2K, a tournament for lower bisquers, is held over 2 days in early April

first Wednesday in May - coaching for association croquet starts, at 6pm, and is held every Wednesday until the end of August

June - we run a Schools' Day, when 3 schools each send 8 children (aged 13-ish), who all play 8 short games of golf croquet (heavily supervised), and the winning school is presented with a handsome trophy.

The Able/Disabled Club from Tonbridge generally spends a day with us, as do various groups, e.g. W.I's, retirement groups, men's groups, etc.

Summer - various social events are held during the summer, i.e. the gymkhana and pirates events (these are organised games using mallets, balls, hoops, and fun).

If you have a good idea for a social event, please let a committee member know.

mid November - Club AGM

December - Christmas Dinner!
